Work in Progress

work in progress // evermore paper co.

Popping in to share a little update on my new collection. If you follow along on instagram you may have seen a few sneak peeks here and there and know that I've been testing out all sorts of new techniques. It's been exciting to have time to experiment like this, but in the midst of doing so, I have become incredibly indecisive over my next steps (as I mentioned here). I had hoped to have a ton of new items in the shop by now, along with a fancy new catalog and a little website update, but it seems like those things keep getting pushed further and further off.

To be honest, I was starting to feel quite down about it all and my mind started swirling with all these negative thoughts ("You're a failure!"). Rather then succumb to the depths, I've taken it as a challenge to work even harder, because the truth is, I've not failed at all, not even a single bit. All it took was the realization that I had set completely unrealistic expectations for myself. Once I adjusted those, it became much easier to start moving forward again. So I'm back to toiling away and getting closer to having some new items for you soon! You can sign up for my newsletter below to stay in the know.

In the meantime, I found this quote and the subsequent post from Molly Jacques really relevant. Enjoy and TGIF!

Plans, Schemes & Dreams 01

Oh Monday, you're such a pain! Especially after a long holiday weekend filled with beautiful weather. To ease back into the week, I like to schedule a quick planning meeting (with myself) to write some goals, checklists, etc. for the week ahead and to make sure I'm on pace with some of the more long-term goals I've set. It's the perfect way to shift my focus from the weekend and I thought it would be fun to share some of the plans, schemes, and dreams that pop up during these "meetings".

Right now, I am....

Planning new designs (and maybe even a few new products) and their corresponding release dates.

Scheming ways to make more connections in Chicago (and elsewhere).

Dreaming about potentially spending a week in California this summer.

Swash Studies

This weekend was every bit as relaxing as I hoped it would be and I can happily say I'm feeling refreshed and inspired for the week ahead. I even spent some time practicing my calligraphy skills and plan to show you some shots of my progress soon. The pen is slowly starting to feel more natural but I'm still pretty shaky. Also, I discovered that I am absolutely terrible when it comes to making swashes and flourishes. You know - Those little curly embellishments that just make everything look so much prettier. I'm too embarrassed to show my attempts because they are outright awful. I'm having a hard time visualizing where the pen should go next and I just sort of keep looping around in circles. So I've been studying up on them and hopefully with some more practice things will start to improve soon. Meanwhile, here are some nice examples of the look I'm going after.

Love + Type: Fair Winds

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I stumbled upon this sweet little saying last night and thought it was an appropriate sentiment for today (and the start of another week). I'm in the midst of putting the final touches on my spring line that will be launching later this week and I am hoping for smooth sailing as I finish photographing everything (always a dreaded task). Meanwhile, I hope your day and all those that follow are filled with many blessings and much luck.

Work It

Here's a little Wednesday motivation for you! Also, I recently downloaded a bunch of new photoshop brushes (including the watercolor ones used above) and I am a little obsessed to say the least. And since I love sharing awesome finds, I went ahead and created a new Pinterest board where I will be posting all of my favorite resources and tools. You can follow along here.

Love + Type: Cuddle

It's a gray, snowy Monday and I really wish I could just hop back into bed and snuggle with this cute pup.

In this new weekly series, I'll be sharing photos of the things I love combined with some lettering practice. It's meant to be a fun, light-hearted way of showing you what inspires me, while also giving me the opportunity to practice new lettering techniques. Also, I hope it'll help me get in the habit of practicing my skills on a more regular basis.
